If you’re struggling in your finances or burdened by debt, the first thing you must do is to accept that GOD gives His children the power to get wealth. After taking that step, you will follow it by acting on the Word, then it shall come to pass in your life.
Many believers don’t believe that GOD gives His children the power to get wealth. They may quote Deuteronomy 8:18 verbatim and tell you they believe every word of it. But when you check their lives, there is no evidence to show that the Word of GOD is working in them; at least not in their finances.
When a born-again child of GOD is living the life of quiet desperation; always struggling to make ends meet, mostly doing without and wallowing in debt, that is evidence that GOD’s Word is not prospering in that life. Jesus, in Matthew 7:16, said: “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?”
Of course, the answer is “No.” So, if you’re struggling in your finances or burdened by debt, the first thing you must do is to accept that, as the Bible declares in Deuteronomy 8:18, GOD gives His children the power to get wealth. After taking that step, you will then follow it by acting on the Word.
The term “acting on the Word” refers to meditating on that Word until your spirit man agrees with it that it is the truth. And, after that, you will begin to do what that Word says confidently, with ever increasing faith, knowing that the result of what you believe will surely come to pass.
That is how to make the promises of GOD a reality in your life. For example, the Bible in Isaiah 55:11 made known one of GOD’s most astounding promises: “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
According to this Scripture, when the Word of GOD proceeded from His mouth in Deuteronomy 8:18, it did not return to Him. It went out to prosper in the thing that GOD sent it to do. That is the assurance we got from Isaiah 55:11.
That means any of GOD’s children who receives Deuteronomy 8:18, and acts on it, is supernaturally empowered to get wealth. Such a believer cannot fail to be financially free.
Let us read that Scripture again: “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
The power to get wealth is in existence today. It’s still as active and potent as it was the first day GOD said it. It will never return to Him void. If you act on this Word and start declaring boldly: “GOD has given me the power to get wealth. So, I am blessed and prosperous. I am always having all sufficiency in all things and I have abundance for every good work,” then it shall come to pass in your life.
GOD has proved to His children who dare to believe Him and act on His Word that He does not deny Himself. They always have proof to show that GOD is faithful; that He is watching over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12 – The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition).
So, when a believer says I believe that GOD’s Word works but has nothing to prove it, the enemy must have stolen that Word from him.
“Well, brother Emmanuel Sunny,” someone might say, “I have never thought of it this way. I never thought it was automatic and that that Word belongs to every believer.”
Oh yes, it belongs to every believer who acts on it. And it is automatic, provided you follow GOD’s established supernatural laws in activating it.
For example, your wealth will not be pronounced immediately you receive the Word. No. You must obey the supernatural law of sowing and reaping first. It is against this law for seeds to bear fruits the same day they are planted.
Planted seeds go through a process. You start by looking for a good soil; a fertile land. You clear the land and break the soil, in readiness for the arrival of planting season, when the heavens will pour down the rains to wet the ground (or, as it happens these days, you go for irrigation farming).
The seed you sow must be a good one. And once it is sown, you must continue to tend the land, making sure you weed the grass that will stubbornly want to choke it.
This is going to be a continuous effort until the seed starts to grow and reaches maturity when its fruit can be harvested. For every good seed planted in a good soil, this process is the same. They all answer to the law established in Genesis 8:22: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest … shall not cease.”
Someone says, “I understand the planting of seeds and harvesting them when they bear fruit, but I have never seen the connection between planting seeds and having financial prosperity.”
Oh, there is a connection, alright! The two processes bear similarities too. Failure to see how the two follow the same pattern is largely responsible for the ignorance being exhibited by many believers today. Because of this ignorance, they are not enjoying what their heavenly Father has provided for them.
For we have the confirmation from GOD’s Word in 1 Timothy 6:17 that says: “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” (Emphasis mine).
Also, in Psalm 35:27, we read: “Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.””
Just like the farmer, any believer who desires to be financially free with peace of mind, without resorting to any of the crazy things people do today to get wealth, must have a seed to sow, a good land to plant it on, and he must be ready to protect the seed from aggressive weeds.
There is confusion in the minds of many believers when it comes to finding a seed to sow. You will hear them say: “I’m not working so I have no money. There is nothing for me to sow.” Or they may say: “What I am earning is barely enough for me to cover my expenses. I’m even owing debt right now. So where will I find the seed to sow?”
This response to sowing is a direct result of stark ignorance of how the supernatural law of sowing and reaping works. The first aspect of this law says: “Without a seed there is no harvest.” Jesus Christ made that clear in Luke 6:38:
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
That commandment, call it instruction, is the first step in fulfilling the law of sowing and reaping. You cannot skip it if you want to have harvest.
Since you must absolutely give something (plant a seed) before you expect a harvest (financial freedom), you must look beyond money as your seed if you’re jobless. What I am about to say next does not apply to someone who is earning some money even though he thinks it is not enough to meet all his need or because he is in debt.
If you’re jobless but have a desire to be financially free, then invest your free time. Let’s say you are a graduate yet to be employed or you’re healthy and strong but are jobless, you can sow your time as a seed.
Just make sure you do it willingly and cheerfully. It will be accepted by your Father in heaven Who sees your heart and knows your motive.
Once you have taken the decision to sow your time, the next thing you will do is to go before your Father and pray to Him in Jesus Name. You will tell Him: “I desire to be financially free so that I will be able to meet my financial obligations to my family (as your Word says in 1 Timothy 5:8) and to my society as your Word says in 2 Corinthians 9:8.
“I realize from what Jesus said in Luke 6:38 that I must give first before I receive. I believe the word of my Lord and I desire to act on it. But I am not employed. To prove my sincerity that I believe Your Word, I have decided to sow my time.
“I am a graduate of mathematics (or English or any other subject you know). I am good at teaching. (Or, I am strong and healthy. I can help elderly people to run errands.). I, therefore, want to sow my time as my seed offering. Please Father, let my time investment be acceptable to You. I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.”
Follow this faith prayer with action. Look for some students that are having difficulty with the subject you know well and draw a program to coach them for free. Or look for elderly people around you and run errands for them. This type of giving is acceptable to the Lord. It is equivalent to the sacrificial giving of the widow we read about in Mark 12:41-44:
“Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So, He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood’.”
According to this account, this poor widow put in everything she had into the offering plate and Master Jesus said she gave more than those who put in fat cheques out of their abundance.
You also could be likened to that widow. You did not have money to give. But you were so determined to follow Jesus’ instruction that you gave your time. I know that this type of giving works. I have Kenneth Copeland’s testimony to prove it.
When he started from the position where you probably are right now years ago, they were passing the offering plate in a church service he attended, and he had nothing to put in it. He reached out for a button in his shirt, pulled it off and dropped it in the offering plate. He was telling the Lord that if he had cash he would have given it willingly and cheerfully.
Today, Kenneth Copeland and his wife, Gloria, give in millions, including aircrafts, according to their well-documented testimonies. And, yes, he and Gloria are running a flourishing worldwide ministry with undeniable proof!
Let us pause here for now. Meditate on this message if you truly desire to be free financially. (And what are you doing in my mentoring program if you don’t want to be financially free?).
