Change Your Life By Changing Your Thinking!

When we are confronted with the results of our thinking, and we are told we generated those results by ourselves, we immediately become defensive. We all are a product of our thoughts. And it happens through what we concentrate our thinking on.

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” – Proverbs 23:7

Have you ever found yourself arguing in your heart with this true statement?

A lot of people do. I once did. The reason we argue with this true statement is because when we are confronted with the results of our thinking, and we are told we generated those results by ourselves, we immediately become defensive.

For example, you may be broke. You need money to do some urgent things, like paying the school fees of your children which are already overdue. Or you have missed paying your rent for last month. And another one is due in a couple of days. And there is no hope you will ever be able to pay it.

At that point in time, when you are desperate for money, a friend steps up to you and says, “Friend, do you know what?” “No,” you respond. Then he goes on to tell you: “You are the one that is responsible for your lack of money.”

You snap back at him: “How is that?” Then he tells you: “It’s because of the way you’re thinking. It’s all as a result of your thoughts.”

“How can that be?” You’re close to shouting at him now. “How can you tell me it is because of the way I’m thinking? How can I be thinking of being broke?”

Before I get into proving to you that you’re a product of what you think, let me quickly establish the fact that the Word of GOD is the truth. First, the Bible says it is so. In John 17:17 the Bible says: “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” And Psalm 119:160 also says: “The entirety of Your word is truth, And, every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”

If the Word of GOD is truth, according to the Bible, is that what makes it the truth … just because the Bible says so? I will answer “Yes” unequivocally. But you don’t have to agree. The reason I am able to answer in the affirmative is because I have found GOD’s Word to be the truth. I didn’t just swallow it hook, line and sinker. I have proven it to myself that it is, indeed, so.

I share this story quite often. There was a time in my life that I was hopelessly broke. So broke, I found it difficult feeding my family. Somehow, I got to studying the Bible around this time. That was how I came upon the sixth chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew. I dived into it with all seriousness, looking for an answer to my poverty affliction, hoping I would find the answer to my problem in it.

I did. I found the liberating words in Matthew 6: 25-33. Get your Bible, read it and see what it says.

For someone who is so broke that all he could sometimes have for dinner with his family was just water, these words from the Bible were so comforting. If only it could be relied on, I thought at the time. All the same, I hung on to it with every faith I could muster.

And GOD stepped into my case from that point on. Hunger disappeared, never again to torment me. I am telling you what happened more than 40 years ago. That is long enough time for GOD’s Word, as revealed to me in the Scripture I quoted above, to have failed. But not for one single day has He failed to keep His promises to me. GOD is always watching over His Word to perform it. (See Jeremiah 1:12).

I still see people who are desperately hungry the way I used to be back then today. And I am 100 per cent confident that the same GOD Who met me at the point of my need at that time, will meet the need of anyone who diligently seeks Him … as I did.

GOD didn’t just prove His faithfulness in supplying material needs to me. He also has proved Himself to be My Healer. I have been in the worst place sickness can take anyone to. But by depending on what I call “Healing Scriptures,” building my faith on them, Christ the Healer, My Lord and My Saviour, has proven again that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Matthew 24:35 NKJV).

For these reasons and more, I am absolutely convinced that the Word of GOD is the truth and it is unchangeable.

And it is His Word that I quoted at the beginning of this message: “For as he thinks in his heart so is he.” Proverbs 23:7.

Look for any of His Word, His promise in the Bible that you want to build your faith on. Begin to trust Him with all your heart to bring it to pass. GOD will prove Himself in your own life too. When that happens consistently, you will come to the place where I am, and you could say as I am saying that His Word is the truth.

And that leads us back to the topic I am addressing in this article. We all are a product of our thoughts. And it happens through what we concentrate our thinking on. For example, that person that has house rent challenge. There is no question about the fact such person’s thought is frantically thinking about nothing else but how he would have that need met.

With his mind consumed with that thought, the only guaranteed result is failure to meet that need. Even if he eventually goes to meet that need, he would have suffered too much emotionally. At a point, he would be like a rat that is midway to crossing a road before the headlamp of a car picks him up from a distance. He will freeze on that spot, unable to move. And he will be very lucky indeed if the tires of the car do not crush him.

But if you do not learn to trust GOD and give that same heart with which you concentrated all your thinking on your need, your frustration will keep increasing. But if you seek first the kingdom of GOD and His righteousness, allowing GOD’s Word to drive away the thought of the things that only GOD can provide for you and has, indeed, promised to add to you, then you will find that the Word of GOD you’re thinking about all the time will deliver whatever it promises you without hassle.

Follow this step and liberate yourself from desperation occasioned by lack and need. I see you walk in liberty from today as you embrace this new way of thinking 24/7 in Jesus Precious Name. Amen.
